Originating in France roulette was shipped over to America with the French immigrants who settled in New Orleans. Since it was known as 'European Roulette' or 'Zero Roulette' in France, it managed to maintain this title in the beginning of its settlement in the USA. Nevertheless adaptations took place in its new environment. These adaptations came in the form of an additional double zero pocket. Additionally, this new version has two pockets which cannot be played on outside bets. This is due to the fact that American Roulette has a higher total number of numbers. Unlike European Roulette which has thirty-seven numbers, American Roulette has thirty eight – thus affecting the house edge. Accordingly, the European version is considered more player friendly the American counter part.
Players agree that the house edge on the European version is far more reasonable than that of the American version, which they consider horrible.
